About Marea
Marea Goodman, LM, CPM (they/them) is a licensed midwife specializing in caring for the LGBTQ+ community from pre-conception into the first year of parenting. A graduate of the National Midwifery Institute, Marea has been licensed by the California Medical Board since 2015 and is now serving the community in Santa Cruz, CA for homebirth and at-home IUI (intrauterine insemination).
Marea is the founder of the PregnantTogether Community, a vibrant online community supporting queer folks & solo parents from preconception through parenting, and the co-author of the book Baby Making for Everybody—Fertility and Family Building for LGBTQ+ and Solo Parents (touted as the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” for non-traditional families).
- Children? I have 3 children
- My family-building journey: I got together with my co-parent when her oldest child was 7 and she was in the process of trying to conceive as a solo parent by choice. We dated during her pregnancy, and over time I became a second parent to both children she birthed. A couple of years later I conceived our third child via IUI. We are now divorced and figuring out the co-parenting life.
- My unsolicited parenting advice: Life will throw you curveballs, and you’ll be able to handle them much better if you bring love and gentleness to yourself through the process. Remember that you are trying your best, and be gentle with yourself through the ups and downs.
