FAQs - For Those Just Getting Started

Fatherhood is likely several years away for me, maybe 3-5 years. When should I start thinking about how I’m going to become a dad?

For gay and queer men, it takes lots of planning and time to become a parent…typically between 2-3 years. Something we hear time and time again from dads who’ve gone through the process is that it’s never too early to start researching! How about signing-up for GWK Academy now and then you will have an informed decision about all that’s involved in how long it will take you to achieve your dreams of parenthood.

What are the different paths to fatherhood available for most gay or queer men?

Gay and queer men living in the U.S. and Canada have two options for family-building: to become biological parents via surrogacy & IVF, or to become adoptive parents to newborns or any aged child from the foster system. Openly gay and queer men are also able to adopt internationally from Columbia and South America, and  this typically involves adopting a child between the ages of two and ten years.

How can I get more information on gay adoption or gay surrogacy?

You can download our free “Path Comparison Guide” for an overview of each path, the costs involved, and typical timelines.

What if I am unable to decide which path to fatherhood to choose?

Do not worry, this is not always an easy decision to make. If you’re still not sure which path to follow, schedule a 30-minute coaching call with GWK Academy head coach Brian. Please note that each call is just $75.

I'm interested in multiple paths?

Not a problem. With GWK Academy, you have the option to select just one course or both. No doubt after a careful review of all that's involved in both adoption / foster-adopt AND surrogacy, you will be able to choose the one that's best for your family.

FAQs - For Those Who Have Already Chosen Their Path to Fatherhood

How does GWK Academy work?

For a one-time fee of just $99, you can purchase our Surrogacy & IVF course OR our Adoption / Foster-Adopt course. We then suggest you make your way through each lesson, and in the order in which they are presented. After you make it through all the lessons, we encourage you to connect with one of our Gay Dad Mentors or vetted family-building partners. (Those enrolled in our Surrogacy & IVF course also have access to our supplemental Surrogacy & IVF Legal and Insurance Guides.)

I appreciate the self-guided platform, but becoming a dad is going to be one of the most important achievements of my life. I’m feeling overwhelmed…what should I do?

Totally understand this, and it is exactly why GWK Academy head coach Brian is available for private coaching calls for just $75 per 30 minutes. Feel free to use this link to schedule your call. We can almost guarantee that just one call with Brian will leave you feeling more in control and less overwhelmed.

I’ve already started my journey, should I still consider GWK Academy?

Depending on how far along you are, you could likely still get considerable value from GWK Academy. If you’re pursuing surrogacy, you might still be able to take advantage of the discounts we offer from trusted family-building partners. Schedule a free 15-minute call with GWK Academy head coach Brian to learn more.

Any other advice you want to share?

So glad you asked, as we do indeed. In order to make the most of GWK Academy, we strongly encourage you to get through each of the lessons in your course without any external distractions. In other words, until you have finished:

  • Stay away from Google
  • Take what you hear from friends and family with a grain of salt - everyone’s journey is different
  • Do not schedule calls with prospective family-building partners

Why? Because we want to ensure you have a strong understanding of all that’s involved in your chosen path to fatherhood, so you can feel informed and confident. This will minimize any unnecessary rabbit holes on Google or getting confused by well-meaning (but possibly misinformed) friends or family members, and making sure you are talking to the best family-building partners for your journey.
