GWK Academy and The Queer Family Podcast Team-Up to Celebrate Queer Families Everywhere

Only a couple of weeks into our new mission of family-building for all LGBTQ+ people, we are thrilled to share exciting news—a collaboration with The Queer Family Podcast! When host and creator Jaimie Kelton connected with GWK Academy Executive Director Brian Rosenberg, it felt like a natural and long-overdue meeting between two passionate champions of LGBTQ+ families. And now that connection has turned into a collaboration—starting with this special feature and continuing with something you won’t want to miss this Pride, and perhaps even further.

Founded and hosted by Jaimie Kelton, The Queer Family Podcast is a bold, funny, and heartfelt show that offers a front-row seat into the beautiful, complex, and intentional lives of queer families. Jaimie Kelton, a queer mom of two who is on a mission to spotlight the diverse and often overlooked stories of queer parenthood.

For Jaimie and her wife Anne, their journey to parenthood was anything but simple. Anne, being a bit older, carried their first child using an anonymous open donor. After several unsuccessful cycles of IUI, the couple switched to IVF, and, thankfully, it worked. Two years later, it was Jaimie’s turn to carry their second child, and that’s when the fertility roadblocks began.

Returning to the same doctor, Jaimie started with IVF, but to her surprise, it failed. They tried multiple rounds of IUI—none of which worked—and then found themselves running out of sperm. After buying their donor’s remaining vials out of retirement (yes, literally), they then discovered they had more sperm saved than they realized—only to go through several more failed IUIs. After more than 10 rounds of IUI and multiple attempts at IVF, Jaimie hit a breaking point. Her doctor finally said, “It’s time to switch things up,” and so they did, by switching doctors. That raw, real, and emotional journey is what sparked the creation of The Queer Family Podcast. It also led, after nearly four years of trying, to the birth of their son.

“The show is all about family, but with gay,” as Jaimie loves to call it, dives deep into the many paths queer people take to parenthood—from fertility treatments like IUI, IVF, and RIVF, to surrogacy, adoption, foster care, and donor sibling stories. It’s the only podcast of its kind that centers family-building through a queer lens—and in doing so, normalizes and uplifts our community with humor, honesty, and a whole lot of heart.

As queer families continue to face erasure and discrimination, The Queer Family Podcast serves as both a safe haven and a megaphone. It’s a place where listeners can feel seen—whether they’re navigating donor databases or just trying to get their kids out the door on time.

Now, The Queer Family Podcast is teaming up with GWK Academy to celebrate and amplify the voices of queer parents everywhere. Whether you’re already a parent, on the journey to becoming one, or just curious about what it means to build a family outside the traditional mold, The Queer Family Podcast is a must-listen. But the gay fun doesn’t stop here—be sure to keep an eye out for Brian’s guest feature on The Queer Family Podcast during the Pride Extravaganza series this June. You won’t want to miss it!
