As a reproductive endocrinologist and Medical Director of LGBTQ+ and Third Party Services at Fertility Specialists of Texas (FST), Dr. Daniel Skora has helped hundreds of families grow. But in April 2023, he and his husband, Rey Cervantes, stepped into a new chapter of their own—becoming dads to twin boys via gestational surrogacy. What made their journey even more meaningful? Their surrogate was a close personal friend.
“One of the joys of my life is to help make their families whole,” says Dr. Skora, reflecting on the privilege of helping LGBTQ+ patients navigate their fertility journeys. It’s a mission he’s built his career around—and one that has now become personal.

The couple, together for over a decade, welcomed their twins through IVF and surrogacy, with guidance from a trusted team. Dr. Skora’s clinical knowledge and experience with third-party reproduction was vital, but he also emphasizes the importance of having a strong support system: “Find people that are on your side and have a lot of experience.”
Rey, a passionate father, a celebrated principal, and advocate in his own right, adds, “We hear it, we know it—representation matters. We’re here to cheer you on.” Their openness and visibility as a two-dad family is helping create a more affirming future for others just starting their journey.

Fertility Specialists of Texas is a proud family-building partner of GWK Academy, and with Dr. Skora leading LGBTQ+ and Third Party Services, that partnership continues to support and empower queer parents-to-be. Their clinic has become a go-to resource for those seeking affirming, expert-led fertility care.
Today, Dr. Skora and Rey are navigating twin parenthood with joy, humility, and humor—embracing the challenges and celebrating the small, magical moments that define family life. And in doing so, they’re helping other LGBTQ+ families see what’s possible.
