About Brian
Brian (he/him) and his husband, Ferd, embarked on their journey as first-time dads in 2009. At the time, resources for queer men looking to become parents were scarce—let alone for those who had already taken the leap into fatherhood. Determined to change that, they launched Gays With Kids in March 2014, creating a vital support network for gay, bi, and trans men navigating parenthood. Now, with the launch of GWK Academy as an independent nonprofit, Brian is expanding his mission to support the entire LGBTQ+ community in their family-building journeys—ensuring that no one has to go it alone.
Together since 1993, the secret to this couple’s longevity is Ferd’s prowess in the kitchen and Brian’s great appreciation for anything his husband cooks!
- Children: 3
- Family-building journey: Our eldest, Levi, joined our family through adoption, while our twins, Ella and Sadie, were born via surrogacy and IVF. I often share that I am their biological father because, as someone living with HIV, I want others with HIV or other chronic illnesses to know that parenthood is still possible.
- Parenting advice: If parenting is in your heart, just do it! You are capable, worthy and will no doubt be an incredible parent. It’s never the perfect time to get started, so why not go for it now?!
